2023-24 Academic Salary Program

April 26, 2023

Dear Colleagues:

The UC Office of the President anticipates that for the second year in a row, all eligible policy-covered staff employees, senate faculty and policy-covered academic appointees will receive a salary increase, pending approval of the state budget and the University of California receiving its full state funding.
If the University of California receives its full state funding, our campus plans to implement a 4.6 percent general increase to policy-covered academic salary scales in 2023-24 for senate faculty and other policy-covered (non represented) academic personnel. The new scales are effective July 1, 2023 for non faculty academic titles, and October 1, 2023 for faculty and student titles.
Senate faculty and related titles: Increases for senate faculty and related titles will be effective October 1. The campus is extending this increase to include off-scale components and above-scale salaries. Unless otherwise stipulated in appointment or retention agreements, appointees active in the following title series as of October 1 are eligible for the increase: Professor and Teaching Professor (Lecturer with Security of Employment), including Acting titles; Astronomer; and Adjunct Professor.
Faculty administrators: Department chair and college provost stipends will increase 4.6% effective July 1. Other faculty administrators, including deans, may be considered for a merit increase in administrative salary or stipend of up to 4.6% based on meritorious performance.
Policy-covered academics: Policy-covered academic salary scales — including academic coordinators, supervisory librarians and researchers, and UNEX continuing educators — will increase by approximately 4.6% effective July 1, unless otherwise stipulated in appointment or retention agreements or program terms. For off-scale and above-scale appointees, the increase will be applied to the total annual salary rate.

The 4.6% increase is approximate due to rounding. Increases will be reflected in the paycheck following the effective date.

Negotiated compensation agreements for recalled retirees, by-agreement appointees, visitors, etc. are subject to the discretion of the hiring authority and will not be automatically increased. Salary increases for represented academic personnel are set by the terms of the collective bargaining agreements.
