  • 2. Stipends are paid in equal installments on a fiscal-year basis (7/1 through 6/30), using “Department Chairperson” (title code 1096), and “Stipend” (description of service code “STP”).
  • 3. Department chair stipend payments are subject to any academic range adjustment approved by The Regents.

Upon completion of three consecutive years of uninterrupted service as department chair, a total of three additional sabbatical credits will be awarded. Thereafter, upon completion of each additional year of uninterrupted service, one additional sabbatical credit will be awarded. A maximum of nine additional sabbatical credits for service as department chair may be accrued.

Deans may approve additional compensation and/or support (e.g., summer salary, research support, or course relief) to department chairs based on criteria such as the size and complexity of the unit, the number of FTE supervised, the workload associated with research activity, and the extent of relevant administrative experience and academic leadership of the appointee. If summer salary is approved, it must be processed as such (i.e., 1/9th basis), and will be counted against the 3/9ths maximum.
