2010-11 Thresholds for Faculty Salaries

January 18, 2011

By Pamela G. Peterson, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Academic Personnel

Dear Colleagues:

The new 2010-11 thresholds for faculty salaries are effective 12/31/2010. The Indexed Compensation Level (ICL) has been raised from $275,000 to $281,000. Accordingly, the new thresholds for the UC Provost’s (Provost and Executive Vice President – Academic Affairs) approval of 2010-11 abovethreshold salaries are adjusted as follows:

Faculty Ladder Ranks Scale                      Threshold

Faculty Ladder Ranks Scale – Acad. Yr. $281,000

Faculty Ladder Ranks Scale – Fiscal Yr. $325,900

Faculty Ladder Ranks Scale – Bus/Engr/Econ.- Acad. Yr. $307,900

Faculty Ladder Ranks Scale – Bus/Engr/Econ. – Fiscal Yr. $357,200

Academic-year faculty whose salaries exceed $281,000 will require approval by the UC Provost. In addition, academic faculty who hold administrative appointments (Department Chairs, Associate Deans, etc.), whose faculty salary plus administrative compensation exceed $281,000, will also require approval by the Provost. Please see the Guidelines for Above-Threshold Salary Approval for further information. The Chancellor has authority to approve salaries above the thresholds in cases involving faculty merit increases of 10 percent or less.

Requests for approval of salaries that exceed the thresholds must be processed through the Academic Personnel Office. If you anticipate any actions that may require the Provost’s approval, please contact the Academic Personnel Office to discuss them as early as possible.
