Delegation of Authority- Leaves Beyond One Year

April 17, 2002

By John B. Simpson, Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor

Dear Colleagues:

Effective immediately. I hereby delegate to you the authority to approve leaves that extend beyond one year. This includes sick leaves with pay and leaves without pay. Other leaves with pay beyond one year require the approval of the President. This authroity may not be delegated further.

Please refer to APM 133-17g. for the applicability of period of leave towards the eight-year probationary period for Assistant Professors. The Chancellor retains authority for exceptions to the eight-year limit.

The Delegation of Authority Chart will be revised to reflect this delegation.

I believe this delegation helps to streamline the leave approval process and aligns the authority for the decision with the responsibility for the resources.

Sincerely,

John B. Simpson

Campus Provost and

Executive Vice Chancellor
