Re: Issuance of New APM 672, Negotiated Salary Program
Dear Colleagues:
UC System Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Katherine S. Newman has formally issued Academic Personnel Manual (APM) Section 672, Negotiated Salary Program, to be implemented by July 1, 2025 with a purpose of providing a mechanism for temporarily augmenting faculty compensation according to the competitive requirements of academic disciplines. This new policy follows lengthy discussions, extensive consultation, and a multi-phase trial program.
Our campus’ participation in the Negotiated Salary Trial Program will continue in its current form for fiscal year 2024-25. During that time, we will develop campus policy and an ongoing program that conforms to NSP requirements. These will be based on additional forthcoming guidance from the Office of the President as well as consultation with our campus senate and other stakeholders.
I encourage interested parties to read Provost Newman’s announcement, including a discussion of the background, key policy provisions and approach to campus implementation.
Questions about the new systemwide policy may be directed to the Academic Personnel Office at apo@ucsc.edu.
Sincerely,
Grace McClintock
