RE: Issuance of Revised Campus Academic Personnel Manual (CAPM) 406.220 - Merit Increase

Dear Colleagues:

I write to issue revised campus academic personnel policy (CAPM) 406.220, Merit Increase. The revised policy removes the requirement for soliciting external reference letters in Step 6 merit reviews. As a result of senate feedback and recommendations, the revised policy includes clarification that external letters may not be solicited for Step 6 merit reviews, except in cases where the candidate has requested a Career Equity Review, where they remain a requirement (ref. CAPM 412.000, Career Equity Review).

This policy change is effective July 1, 2020, and impacts title series that fall directly under the CAPM 406.220 policy (Professor and Lecturer with Security Employment) as well as title series that refer to the professor series procedures (e.g. Adjunct Professor). The external letter requirement for Step 6 advancement in the Professional Research and Project (e.g. Scientist) series remains in effect (ref. CAPM 600.310 and CAPM 600.311).

The revised policy section, CAPM 406.220.7, is attached to this communication. Please direct any questions regarding this revised campus policy to Ibukun Bloom in the Academic Personnel Office, ijbloom@ucsc.edu.

Sincerely,

Lori Kletzer
Campus Provost and
Executive Vice Chancellor
