I write to confirm the delegation made to the divisional deans by former Acting Chancellor Chemers in his correspondence dated December 21, 2004. The divisional deans are delegated authority to approve housing allowance payments, including exceptional housing allowances up to $100,000 under the Faculty Recruitment Allowance Program (APM 190 – Appendix E; attached). This delegation also extends authority to divisional deans to establish and approve a faculty recruitment allowance repayment schedule.
Per APM 190, Appendix E, the maximum amount of an individual Faculty Recruitment Allowance is determined by the Provost and Senior Vice President – Academic Affairs (UCOP). The maximum Faculty Recruitment Allowance is published annually in the Academic Salary Scales . Currently, housing allowance payments to an eligible Senate member normally shall not exceed the maximum amount published in the Academic Salary Scales, with a maximum housing allowance of $100,000 approved by exception (see attached delegation letter dated 12/21/04). Requests for exceptions to the $100,000 maximum per recipient require approval by the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President – Academic Affairs (UCOP), and must be submitted to the Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor.
This authority may not be redelegated further, and I will retain authority for all other exceptions to APM 190 – Appendix E.
