Effective immediately, I am rescinding dean authority for APM 025 Category I Activity prior approvals and redelegating the authority for all Category I prior approvals to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. CAPM 012.025, Conflict of Commitment and Outside Activities of Faculty Members, will be revised to reflect this change in authority. All other terms of the prior delegation to the VPAA regarding Conflict of Commitment and Outside Activities of Faculty Members, issued January 25, 2018, remain in place. This authority may not be further delegated without express approval from the Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor. Deans will retain authority for approving requests to involve students in a faculty member’s outside professional activities.
This change will align our campus’s APM 025 delegations with the practices at other UC campuses, as well as improve implementation of the new Outside Activities Tracking System (OATS).
Faculty will continue to be required to submit requests to engage in APM 025 Category I activities to their Department Chair at least 45 days in advance of the activity. Department Chairs will review and forward Category I prior approval requests to their Dean. The Dean will then review and forward all requests to engage in a Category I activity to the VPAA for final review and approval. This approval routing will be conducted online in the Outside Activities Tracking System (OATS) once it goes live in the 2018-19 academic year.
All current APM 025 Category I requests at the divisional level that have yet to be approved shall be forwarded to the Academic Personnel Office for VPAA review and decision. If you have any questions or comments, please contact the Academic Personnel Office.
