Delegation of Authority- Housing Allowance Payments

December 21, 2004

By Martin M. Chemers, Acting Chancellor

Dear Colleagues:

Effective immediately, I delegate authority to you to approve housing allowance payments, including exceptional housing allowances up to $100,000 under the Salary Differential Housing Allowance Program. (APM 190-Appendix E; enclosed for your review).

Currently, housing allowance payments to an eligible Senate member normall shall not exceed $50,000, with a maxiumum housing allowance of $53,300 approved by exception. In an effort to help strengthen the efforts of campus administrators in the recruitment and retention of faculty members, Provost and Senior Vice President Greenwood recently authorized chancellors to approve exceptional housing allowances up to $100,000 per recipient. Requests for exceptions to the $100,000 maximum per recipient require approval by the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President-Academic Affairs (UCOP), and should be submitted to the CAMpus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor.

This authority should not be redelegated further.

Sincerely,

Martin M. Chemers

Acting Chancellor
