RE: Working Title for Lecturer with Security of Employment Series: Teaching Professor
Dear Colleagues:
We have long recognized that the title of the academic personnel series, Lecturer with Security of Employment, while descriptive is not well understood outside of the UC system. This may have the effect of not affording the appropriate recognition of the high-quality teaching and excellence in professional activities and service that are carried out by the appointees in this title series.
In order to provide a title that captures the high expectations, offers greater distinction, and underscores the campus’s extraordinary commitment to the success of our students, faculty appointed into the Lecturer with Security of Employment title series at UC Santa Cruz who are Academic Senate eligible, may use the working title of Teaching Professor, effective immediately.
In addition, the working title of Teaching Professor may be used in recruitment advertisements for positions in the Lecturer with Security of Employment title series. The official payroll title must also be referenced in the job announcement; please consult the Academic Personnel Office.
The working title of Teaching Professor is already in use or is proposed for use on several UC campuses. Use of a working title does not change the rights or responsibilities of appointees to the Lecturer with Security of Employment title series as put forth in the Academic Personnel Manual (APM) or the Campus Academic Personnel Manual (CAPM).
Sincerely,
