Re: UC Santa Cruz 2015 Academic Salary Plan
Dear Colleagues:
I am pleased to announce that the campus will implement an academic salary increase plan effective retroactive to July 1, 2015 and comprised of two parts:
(1) Senate Faculty and Equivalent Titles
The academic salary scales are increased by approximately 1.5 percent, including campus scales for Department Chair and College Provost stipends. Senate faculty salaries will be increased by 1.5 percent across the board, including on-scale, off-scale, and above-scale salaries.
In addition, each Senate appointee will receive an off-scale salary allocation of approximately 1.6 percent of the published on-scale rate for their rank and step. This off-scale increase is intended to target salary inequities for Santa Cruz faculty relative to the other UC campuses, as revealed in recent faculty salary equity studies.
This salary plan applies to all senate faculty with appointments active on July 1, 2015, unless stipulated otherwise in appointment agreements. Eligible titles include the ladder rank Professor series, the Lecturer with Security of Employment series, the Astronomer series, and the Supervisor of Physical Education series. The plan also applies to senate faculty summer salary payments that are tied to the salary scale rates.
Campus leadership sought the advice of and has received support from the Academic Senate leadership and the Senate Committee for Faculty Welfare on this salary plan.
(2) Non-Senate, Non-Represented Academics
Salaries for appointees to non-senate, non-represented academic titles (such as Adjunct Professor, Professional Researcher, Project _, Specialist, and Academic Coordinator) will be increased by 1.5 percent across the board, with the following exceptions:
-
- Non-represented Librarians will continue with their ongoing salary program that began on July 1, 2014, in lieu of the 1.5 percent increase.
- The amount and timing of the salary scale increases for Graduate Student Researchers has not yet been announced.
The non-senate academic salary scales are also increased by approximately 1.5 percent.
Salary equity studies have not been done by our campus nor systemwide for non-senate, non-represented academic appointees. These positions are mostly funded by extramural funds, with salary levels subject to budgetary considerations and use of funds subject to contract constraints. Any concerns about significant salary inequities for appointees in this group should be brought forward to the cognizant dean by department chairs or principal investigators on an individual basis. Additional discretionary increases are limited to 1.5 percent.
Increases for recalled retirees, by-agreement appointees, visitors, or other negotiated compensation not tied to the academic salary scales, is subject to the discretion of the hiring authority and will not be automatic.
The salary increases are effective retroactive to July 1, 2015, and we anticipate that the adjustment will be reflected in the October 1, 2015 paychecks.
