Re: 2017-18 Academic Salary Scales

Dear Colleagues:

Salary scales for senate faculty and non-represented, non-student academic personnel have been increased by approximately 1.5 percent effective July 1, 2017. The ladder-rank scales (and scales that derive from the ladder-rank scales) include a modest smoothing to provide more consistent percentages between steps. The revised Academic Salary Scales are available online at the Academic Personnel Office website. Please bring these revised scales to the attention of appropriate individuals in your units.

Department chair and college provost stipends are also increased by 1.5 percent. The faculty recruitment allowance maximum and the maximum amount of start-up costs for faculty in the laboratory sciences are increased by 3%.

The 1.5% increase to the salary scales is one part of the 3% salary program for faculty and other academic personnel announced by the UC Office of the President for 2017-18. Information about the campus implementation of the salary program will be communicated directly to academic appointees by Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Tromp.

Salary scales for represented academic personnel are set by the terms of the collective bargaining agreements. The following adjustments have a July 1, 2017 effective date:

  1. Per the contractual agreement between the University Council-American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT) Unit 18 and the University of California, all Non-Senate Faculty (NSF) salary scales have been adjusted by 2.5 percent.
  2. Per the contractual agreement between the UC-AFT Unit 17 and the University, the salary scales for represented librarians have been adjusted by 1.5 percent.

The effective date for the new salary scales for biweekly paid employees will be 7/2/17. This date will align with the start of a biweekly pay period. The effective date for biweekly employees is reflected in the non-exempt salary scales.

                                                                                         Sincerely,
